what if your mortgage could make a difference?

For years I have searched for a cause that spoke to my heart, something that I truly believed in and wanted to be able to support with 100% certainty, but nothing ever felt quite right.

In January 2024 I adopted a beautiful pup named Piper from a dog rescue called Salty Dog Rescue in Bucerias, Mexico. Piper was 2.5 years old, and absolutely perfect in every way. She was without a doubt my soul dog.

In June of that same year, just shy of 5 months together, Piper was tragically killed in an accident in downtown Calgary when a 20 year old boy ran a red light in the bicycle lane and ran Piper over. Piper passed moments later in my arms.

The grief over her traumatic loss has been overwhelming and truly unbearable at times. It is also what sparked the initiative I have named “a mortgage with a purpose”

The unexpected and tragic loss of Piper started a tsunami of sorts within my life, which ultimately led me to where I am today… having sold everything I owned in Canada + moved to Mexico, volunteering with local rescues, and fostering pups from the very organization that sent my dear Piper to me.

Being of service to these dogs in need has provided more healing to my broken heart than I ever could have imagined.

These rescues run solely on donations to continue their work, and being here on the ground I have seen the challenges they face on a daily basis.

Dozens of messages and calls each day about strays, dogs having been hit by a car, 3 week old puppies left in a box at the side of the road, and so many more tragedies that are hard to speak of.

Being a foster locally here in Bucerias means that I can help these dogs learn what its like to be in a home, to train them an prep them for their new lives in Mexico, Canada or the US. And every one that I take into my home means another can be picked up off the streets. It is an amazing and continuous cycle that we can create for these beautiful souls.

so what is a mortgage with a purpose all about?

I have decided that I want to help even more than by volunteering and fostering alone and have decided to build a donation platform within my business to help these amazing rescues continue their work.

For every mortgage file I close with a client I have pledged to donate $100 to Salty Dog Rescue, and offer the ability for my clients to donate if they feel called to do so- and I have pledged to match their donation on top of my initial donation.

My hope is that together, we can help ease the financial burden of these rescues which means more dogs off the street, more dogs fostered, more dogs adopted, more spay and neuter clinics, and more money for the medical care and food that they require.
